Current vs Ex: Man stabbed as lovers fight over him

Two women, each fighting to retain a man, have separately been charged before a city court after a separated wife attempted to stab her ex-husband for allegedly ignoring her and choosing another woman.

The second woman, who claimed to be the new partner, was accused of stabbing the jilted wife while trying to protect her loving husband.

On November 12, Susan Maina, 28, allegedly caused grievous harm by stabbing Peter Njogu in the stomach at his house in the Patanisho area of Soweto within Embakasi, Nairobi.

Esther Wangui, now Njogu’s fiancée, attempted to intervene to rescue him and, in the process, reportedly stabbed Susan using the same knife.

According to police reports, Susan and Peter were once lovers before parting ways. On the mentioned day, Susan tried to contact Njogu, but Esther answered the call and warned her against contacting her lover.

This purportedly angered Susan, leading her to Peter’s house, where she found him with Esther.

A fight ensued over a previous phone call, and Susan allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife, stabbing Peter in the stomach.

Esther and Peter raised an alarm, and neighbours helped subdue Susan and eject her.

The case was reported at a nearby police station, and Peter was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

Esther went to the police station to report Susan, but it was discovered that she too had allegedly assaulted her, leading to her arrest.

Susan, charged with grievous harm, was released on a bond of Sh200,000, while Esther, charged with assault, was released on a bond of Sh100,000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh20,000.

The matter is scheduled to be mentioned on December 14, when Peter will appear before the court to shed light on the alleged out-of-court settlement.
