Why brothers drove out their father's younger lover

Drama unfolded at a village in Matungulu, Machakos County, on Friday last week when two sons chased away their father's lover.

Joseph Mwangi and Geoffrey Kuria stormed the house of their father, Stephen Njuguna, and demanded that the woman identified as Christine Njoki who has been living with the 70-year-old man, leave.

According to the brothers, Njoki had no right to stay in the house belonging to their mother who died in 2017. Mwangi and Kuria said they will not sit and watch as their father entertained the woman in her early 30s. Njoki was preparing supper when the two brothers stormed the house.

"This land and house belongs to our late mother and we can't allow Mzee to marry and bring another woman here. If he wants to marry her let him buy for her a plot elsewhere," said Mwangi

Attempts by neighbours to calm the siblings did not yield much as they remained adamant that Njoki must move out. Father and sons exchanged unprintable expletives with the former saying he had cursed the two for showing disrespect.

During the ensuing commotion, Njoki called a boda boda rider who took her to the Malaa shopping centre where she boarded a matatu back to Nairobi. Njuguna told The Nairobian that will use all resources to marry Njoki.
