Police recovers AK 47 rifle, arrest three suspects

By Ignatius Odanga | November 28th 2019

Officers from Special Crime Prevention Unit and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have recovered an AK 47 rifle and three arrows.

Three suspects were arrested in Burumba in the outskirt of Busia Town, in an evening swoop on Tuesday following a tip-off from the public.

A motorbike believed to have been used by the suspects in criminal activities was also recovered. The three suspects were taken to Busia Police Station.

The gun had been stolen from a police officer in Siaya County three weeks ago, according to the police.

It is said to have had 30 ammunition before it was stolen, but the magazine was found empty. County criminal investigation officer Jeremiah Ikiao and Busia sub-county divisional criminal investigations officer Samuel Agutu visited the scene.

The gun is believed to have been used by the suspects to carry out criminal activities for the last three weeks.

There have been cases of shootings in various parts of the county recently, a lot of them fatal.

A woman was recently killed in Nambweke, while last week a 22-year-old man was killed in Budalang’i.
