Bungoma, Kenya: A boda boda operator died on the spot and his female passenger was seriously injured when a matatu knocked down the motorcycle along the busy Chwele-Bungoma highway. The woman is receiving treatment at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital.

Bungoma South sub-county OCPD Kirunya Limbitu said the accident happened at Kimukung'i Secondary School as the operator was taking his client, a former student of the school, to collect a certificate.

"The matatu veered off the road and knocked down the victims, who had reached their destination and were waiting at the gate of the school," said Mr Limbitu.

The man's body was taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
