Five seasons, four consecutive Kenya Volleyball Federation National League titles and a number of individual accolades, summarises Trizah Atuka’s career at Kenya Pipeline.

You have been ruled out for two months after stomach surgery, is it a big blow to your team Pipeline ahead of the Kenya Volleyball Federation National play-offs at Kasarani?

My wish was to defend the title with the team, but it’s unfortunate that I won’t feature in the play-offs due to the surgery.

How was the surgery and how is the recovery process?

Going to theatre for a major surgery was the most scaring thing to have ever happened in my life. A lot was running in my mind until an anesthesia was injected into my body. I knew I was alive when I saw my family/friend, three hours later on opening my eyes. I thank God the surgery was successful. I’m on a recovery path and responding well to medication.

When do we expect you back on the court?

I’m still attending my medical checkups running for six weeks until I’m cleared by the doctor.

If you are stuck in a lift, which person would you like to get stuck with?

My best friend. She’s crazy I tell you!

Which teammate is your most trusted friend and confidant?

Lol! I trust nobody in that team (Laughs).

What is your favourite meal?

Mmmmmmh…chapatti and beef.

What one thing can’t you leave the house without?

Waaaau! I can’t leave the house without my phone. That’s my baby.

What do you like to do on your day off? And where do you like to go?

Watching movies and visiting friends and family. Of course this is before getting my own family to spend time with.

Who was your first crush and first kiss?

Hehehehe! I’m a Manchester United fan, but I’ve a big crush on Mesut Ozil. I just love the dude, his calmness, composure and body posture. I hope to meet him one day. My first kiss was from my mother, such an unconditional love!

Who is your favourite musician and what kind of music do you enjoy most?

Aslay - Bongo Flava.

Mesut Ozil

Who do you think is the best sportsman/woman of all time and why do you think so?

Usain Bolt. He has set and broken records at will and literally won all the available championships.

Who is your role model?

The world has become very toxic. For me anyone doing anything to leave the world a better place than they found it is my role model.

If you had a choice of a country to be born in, which one will it be?

Kenya. I’m super proud of my motherland.

How much do you think you are worth?

I’m still finding my footing in the industry.

What other sport(s) do you love to play, and how would you rate your skills?

I enjoy playing tennis. If it wasn’t for volleyball, I would have given the Williams sisters a run for their money.

How do you want the world to remember you Trizah Atuka in sports?

I want to be remembered as a selfless person who loves doing good to others. That’s why I’m really concerned about some socio-cultural problems we face as a society. My love for sports keeps me going, but my passion for helping the needy gives me a lot of satisfaction and happiness.
