Boda boda riders protest over delay in repair of a Ksh. 9 million road bridge in Kitengela

Business came to a halt at Noonkopir area in Kitengela, Kajiado county, after angry boda boda riders baricaded the busy Kitengela -Noonkopir road this morning. The more than 300 riders were protesting a county government delay to repair a Ksh. 9 million road bridge that caved in three months ago. The agitated riders who were accompanied by some area residents used huge stones and rite bonfires to barricade the road as a way to show their anger. The riders also constructed a temporary footbridge alongside the collapsed one, that caved in few days after being commissioned by the county government. Hundreds of motorists playing the route were forced to use the Kitengela-Ngurunga road which is the only alternative route. The riders accused the roads department of laxity in repairing the bridge saying it remains a risk to pedestrians and school-going children.
