Mudavadi to gov't: Deduct 1.5% house levy from proceeds of corruption not burdened Kenyans

Amani National Congress (ANC) Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi has faulted the Jubilee administration over what he terms as, “loading the employee and employer with additional taxation through #housingFundLevy

Through his twitter handle, the NASA co-principal rues that Kenyans are already burdened with high cost of living, skyrocketing basic commodities’ prices and the biting drought- with 1 million Kenyans facing starvation and death.

Mudavadi also says that Jubilee’s idea of providing affordable housing to its citizens is a noble one, but the manner in which they have approached it is ‘ill-conceived’.

Mudavadi, instead, says that funding to the affordable housing agenda, which is one of the four pillars of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy, should come from the recovered proceeds of corruption.

The government said that it would start deducting 1.5% housing levy from employees and employers in the public and private sector beginning May 1st, despite the matter. This provided the sum of the total monthly contributions to the levy dies not exceed Sh5,000.
