I almost quit Gospel Music - Mercy Masika | CAREER MONDAY
From a tender age, Mercy Masika knew that she wanted to be an artiste professionally.
At the age of eleven, she recorded her first album.
Five albums later, she is now a household name in the Kenyan gospel music industry.
With multiple chart-topping hits and several accolades to her name, Masika says her journey has not been a rosy one.
"I always felt like a second-class artiste in my career. Compared to secular artistes, I felt like my music was not being taken seriously," Masika says.
In 2016 she was on the verge of quitting music when she had her breakthrough. She recorded and released a song, Mwema, which got airplay that put the spotlight on her talent.
The song was received well, not just in Kenya, but also in the wider East African region, which made her decide to stick with gospel music.
She attributes her success to her husband who doubles up as her manager.
