Miguna's thoughts on Igathe's resignation
SUMMARY
  • Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe's resignation has had Kenyans talking
  • leaders too were not left behind as each second guessed what will be next for Nairobi county
  • Miguna Miguna gave his sentiments on the same, saying there will be a constitutional amendment following Igathe's exit

Former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate and Author of 'Peeling Back The Mask' Miguna Miguna has voiced his opinion on the resignation of Nairobi County Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.

The Deputy Governor, who was first elected during the August 8 elections last year handed over his resignation letter on January 12 attributing his exit to a fall out with his boss, Governor Mike Sonko.

Igathe, in a short 48-word message sent to newsrooms said that he had failed to earn Sonko’s trust. “I regret having failed to earn the trust of the governor to enable me to drive administration and management of the county,” his statement read.

In the recent past, the two have been rumoured to be at loggerheads with some saying Igathe had been turned into an errand boy. Although they kept things under control, with Igathe telling his social media followers that Sonko is a great boss most Kenyans were not convinced.

Igathe’s resignation caught Kenyans by surprise with many taking to social media to express their views. With many speculations, each gave a glimpse of what could have happened and what will be next for the County.

Among the leaders who shared their thoughts is Miguna Miguna, who vied for the Governor position in the 2017 elections and failed.

INTEGRITY is the software for leadership without which a leader is nothing but a wild beast. I've fought against the cartels gallantly. Happily, I'm VINDICATED. @KideroEvans & @Peter_Kenneth proved to be thieves in suits. @MikeSonko is a primitive, functionally illiterate thief!— Dr. Miguna Miguna (@MigunaMiguna) January 12, 2018

According to him, Sonko is not worthy the office of Governor. He assured Kenyans that although many speculations say the resignation is a move to dissolve the County, the move will require a constitutional amendment.

There are speculations that @IgathePolycarp's resignation may be a prelude to a scheme to "dissolve the county of Nairobi" and create a ministry to "manage it." That cannot occur as it requires a constitutional amendment through a referendum. Igathe may be headed to the cabinet.

He compared Igathe’s exit to the death of a deputy president where a by-election will have to take place for the office to operate normally.

This is my legal opinion. If you disagree with it, publish yours. @IgathePolycarp's resignation is ANALOGOUS to the death of a deputy president. It leads DIRECTLY to a by-election. The Governor's office, like The Presidency is a DUALISM; without one, the other ceases to exist. ????— Dr. Miguna Miguna (@MigunaMiguna) January 12, 2018
