Kisumu back on its feet

Kisumu City is bustling with activities just a few day after the National Super Alliance (NASA) declared that they will move to court to seek justice.

The city was among those affected by the post poll violence that was experienced in the just concluded general elections that left many injured and some dead.

The skirmishes which took place for four days paralyzed the city’s businesses for over a week as the residents remained indoors for fear of their lives.

Not until Thursday other shops and business enterprise had remained closed as they awaited NASA’s next move.

“We are happy that Raila Odinga decided to take his petition to the Supreme Court to seek justice because if they had opted for mass action am afraid we would loose a lot,” said Fred Omondi a business operator.

Initially the movement had threatened not to go to court this time round instead they would opt for mass action.

The move by NASA to go to court that has been applauded all over the country and beyond has brought the city on its feet and total normality has been witnessed in the town.

“We hope that the Supreme Court will be able to deliver justice so that the peace we are experiencing now is long lasting,” said Omondi.

Omondi added; “I have incurred high losses due to the continued tension and insecurity ever since the presidential results were announced it is time for us now to work harder as we await the Supreme Court decision.”

Supermarkets have started restocking their shelves that were half empty after the assurance that there will be no mass action.

“We were waiting to see what could come out of the NASA’s public address before we could bring in more goods,” said Kevine Otieno a supermarket attendant.

Activities in the town are fast reviving with utmost peace being felt in the lake side region’s capital.
