NASA: We will not go to Dubai, presidential candidate demands that IEBC shuts Uhuru and Riala

The NASA coalition luminary and presidential candidate Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta lack the moral authority to examine the conduct of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) especially in the award of tender for printing ballot papers.

This is according to Prof. Michael Wainaina who is an independent candidate in the presidency August race.

Prof Wainanina during an interview on national television on Sunday night said the two led top political parties in conducting shambolic nominations that were marred with irregularities.

According to Wainaina, the muscle flexing between the two camps led by Raila and Uhuru over the awarding ballot tender to a Dubai based firm is inconsequential and to him their arguments do not matter given that the body is not indebted to them.

Wainaina has challenged IEBC to go ahead and pronounce itself on the controversy surrounding the supply and production of the election materials as it is only them who have the ability to convince the country of its ability to conduct a free and fair election.

He said it is a high time the commissions shut them up (Uhuru and Raila) for they were pretending to have foreseen a procurement problem yet it is clearly problematic politics they were playing.

He said at some point that the leaders always sought to create problems when none existed as he seemed to solely count on IEBC for free and fair elections.

NASA Secretariat Norman Magaya on the other hand said they had adequate evidence on the link between Jubilee party leaders and the Dubai firm awarded the ballot tender.

Mr Magaya revealed that they had informed IEBC that they had no business with accompanying them to Dubai after they were invited to represent presidential candidate for their camp in witnessing the production of ballots.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati had held that the tendering process for ballots production was done and sealed moving to invite the presidential candidates to be part of the teams ascertaining that there were no irregularities in the process.

According to Magaya, the invitation itself had indicated that IEBC had sensed there were issues with the firm and sought to clear mischief lines by having them accompanying their teams to Dubai.

He said NASA will be going to court over the controversial matter that has surrounded President Uhuru Kenyatta and coined in some of his family members’ involvement.

Jubilee party Secretary General Rapahael Tuju rejoined that they had been used to such narratives from the opposition saying it was among the eleven road blocks Mr Odinga had set on the path to elections.

Tuju identified ODM party’s agitation for the removal of Isaac Hassan commission from office as one of the barricades he accused Mr Odinga of leading.

He said the ODM party forced the country to accommodate the distress and that now they had endeavored to devour on the credibility of the new commission.

The other blocking mechanisms he claimed Raila had set are court cases against the transfer of returning officers, use of BVR kits and now the ballots tender award to Al Gurair
