Uhuru, Ruto describe Papa Shirandula as a gifted actor who will be cherished forever

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday condoled with the family of TV star Charles Bukeko aka Papa Shirandula, who died at the Karen Hospital.

In his message, the Head of State described the deceased as a gifted storyteller whose works will be remembered forever.

He wished Kenyans fortitude as they mourn the talented thespian.

The President’s sentiments were echoed by DP William Ruto who heaped praises on Papa for his distinctive performances.

Ruto singled-out Bukeko’s guidance in grooming a number of local thespians, saying he will miss his works both on and off stage.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of versatile television star Charles Bukeko ‘Papa Shirandula’. Bukeko was a towering, talented and skilful actor.


“His electrifying and distinctive performances will continue to enlighten and inspire many generations,” tweeted Ruto.

Adding: “We will miss his rich contribution on and off the stage. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bukeko family, friends and the arts fraternity during this sad time. Rest In Peace, Papa.”

Former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka also sent his condolences to the family, describing Papa as a talented actor who was a joy to watch.

“I am saddened to have learned of the demise of Charles Bukeko a.k.a Papa Shirandula. He was a talented actor and one whom I also enjoyed to watch.

“A sad loss for our great nation and the entertainment industry.May the Almighty God rest his soul on eternal peace...kwaheri Papa!” he wrote.

Bukeko died on Saturday morning at The Karen Hospital aged 58.

He leaves behind a wife, Beatrice Ebbie Andega, and three children; Tony, Charlie and Wendy.
