In recent times, there has been a spike in the number of con men and women pausing as bereaved persons. Their modus operandi have been that a person would stop you and pretend to have known you from the past.
Once you are engaged, they would then tell you a sob story of how they lost their loved one tragically.
They will then go on and say that the burial was that weekend, after which they produce a contribution book plus a photo of the deceased.
For most people losing a loved one is nothing to be wished for, so many end up parting with contributions towards the purported funeral arrangements.
The areas where they have been operating have been Hurlingham, Ngong Road, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, and Westlands.
I suppose they target these areas because they believe most people here are well up and would readily part with cash for a worthy cause.
So beware, the next time a stranger stops you by the roadside with a sob story, you might just be the target of this con.
