Ambuti, who says he did not want to miss Moi’s funeral, started his journey that took him four days.

Ambuti’s bicycle had different messages of peace and national flags from various countries.

A 76-year-old man cycled from Butere, Kakamega to Kabarak for the final sendoff of Kenya’s second president Daniel Toroitich arap Moi.

Speaking to Citizen digital, Nathan Ambuti says that during his journey, he resulted to sleeping at verandas as he could not afford to pay for a hotel room.

Ambuti, who says he did not want to miss Moi’s funeral, started his journey that took him four days.


“I would not wish to miss the funeral of the man who was an icon of peace not only in Kenya but across Africa,” said Ambuti.

Ambuti’s bicycle had different messages of peace and national flags from various countries.

Upon reaching the Kabarak gate at Moi’s home on Tuesday morning February 11, Ambuti says he was turned away by officers who asked him to go the next day.


 "I have been turned away at the Kabarak gate by tough looking security officers who asked me to come tomorrow," says Ambuti.

Over 30,000 Kenyans are expected to attend the late Mzee Moi’s funeral which will be held at his Kabarak home on Wednesday February 12.

Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho said the country is prepared to host 10 heads of state who will be attending Moi's funeral.
