Defending champions Kabras Sugar and Homeboyz reached Enterprise Cup quarter-finals after winning their respective round of 16 fixtures on Saturday.

Homeboyz saw off Kenya Harlequin 39-13 at RFUEA grounds as the sugar millers beat Menengai Oilers 49-19 at the Bull Ring in Kakamega.

KCB also reached the last eight after beating Strathmore Leos 27-3 while Impala Saracens eliminated University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine with a 41-22 victory.

“We were not good when it came to taking our chances in the final third and that really let us down. We created a lot of chances but it was unfortunate that we didn't make them count,” said Quins coach Dominique Habimana.

Having lost to Homeboyz in their Kenya Cup meeting two weeks ago, Quins started the match on a high as Elisha Koronya dived over the whitewash before Mike Ochieng added the extras.

From the restart, Homeboyz put together several phases before they found a response through Bob Muhati’s converted try.

Mike Ochieng then wasted an opportunity to restore Quins’ lead after he sent his penalty attempt wide.

Wanjala would make them rue that miss as he booted two three-pointers in succession to hand the Deejays a 13-7 advantage.

Muhati beat his markers for pace to seal his brace with his try comfortably converted by Wanjala from a tight angle as Homeboyz led 20-7 at half-time.

Homeboyz, winners of the Enterprise Cup in 2017, continued from where they left off as Leonard Mugaisi got himself to the score sheet with a five-pointer after racing from deep in his own half.

The hosts cut the deficit through Mike Ochieng’s penalty before substitute Joshua Chisanga responded for Homeboyz with a quick brace of tries while Ervin Asena added the conversions.

In Kakamega, Kabras launched their title defence on a high note with South African fly-half Ntabeni Dukisa extending his Kenya Cup form in the cup competition by drilling in an early penalty before Brian Tanga would send back row Lawrence Buyachi through for their first try.

Alfred Orege added the second try shortly after being set up by Fijian Timoci Senaite with Dukisa adding the conversion for a 17-0 lead.

Orege would return to the score board once more with former Kenya Sevens scrum half Tanga joining the fray minuters later for a 27-7 lead.

Tanga and Dukisa would link up again with the South African dotting the fifth try which gave them a comfortable 34-7 at the break after the visitors dotted a penalty try.

Brian Juma would then bag Kabras’s sixth try of the day after the restart with Dukisa adding the conversions for a 41-7 lead before Timothy Okwemba landed Oiler’s second unconverted try.

Oilers skipper Javan Ateh would then land a mole try with Geoffrey Ominde adding the extras to bring the scores to 41-19.

However, Kabras put the game to bed after Fijian fly half Kubu crossed over for the millers seventh try and Dukisa adding a late penalty for a 49-19 win.

The defending champions will now face Mwamba in the quarter-finals with the latter having sailed through a walk over after Kisumu failed to show up at the Nairobi Railway Club.
