Why Murkomen wants senators to cancel their Christmas and New Year plans

Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, December 19, 2019, called upon all Senators to cancel their Christmas and New Year plans.

The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator further advised those senators who had already traveled out of the country to take the next flight home.

Murkomen explained that their services were required in the country.

“To all Senators please cancel your Christmas and new year travel plans. Those already out of the country take the next flight back home. Duty calls!” tweeted the senate majority leader.

This came after Kiambu County Assembly impeached their current Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Waititu was voted out by majority of the members who were present during the sitting.

Only one of the 92 MCAs voted against the impeachment motion yesterday, with 28 others abstaining, 63 voted Waititu out.

The Kiambu governor, according to Kenyan law, now awaits a decision by the Senate on whether or not to remove him from office.

Despite the Senate currently being on recess, Speaker Kenneth Lusaka will have to call for a special sitting after he receives communication from Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndicho with regards to the impeachment.
