SUMMARY

The Governor singled out on the dairy sector saying that it was on the verge of collapse due to the importation of milk from neighbouring countries.

He described the imported milk to be cheap.

Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago on Friday, December 13, 2019, called out for the government to put restrictions on imports.

The Governor singled out on the dairy sector saying that it was on the verge of collapse due to the importation of milk from neighbouring countries.

He described the imported milk to be cheap.

His opinion, however, elicited reactions from Kenyans online who had different opinions on the subject.

Some supported the governor while others questioned his intentions.

Vincent Ngeno - Finally, we have it aired. Stop the importation of milk.

Yvonne Haidar - Not only the dairy sector but any other product from our farms. The gvt should consider our local farmers in a way that it should only import the required amount to add to the one that is not enough.

Tom Makhama - Wanjiku will always go for the cheaper products in the market. What mandago and the government should be addressing is the issues to do with poverty.

Nick Ambale Ambale - The president has little to do with that now..the issue should be how to give Tax exemptions and incentives to local manufacturers and traders...outside competition is good to ensure competitive quality is maintained!
