Rashford: This is what I told Pogba before he wasted the opportunity to win game for Man United

Paul Pogba of Manchester United

Marcus Rashford had no issue with Paul Pogba taking Man Utd's penalty against Wolves , despite the Frenchman's eventual miss.

Pogba saw his spot kick saved by Wolves stopper Rui Patricio as United played out a 1-1 draw at Molyneux.

It was the second penalty awarded to the Red Devils in as many games, following Rashford's successful conversion against Chelsea last week.

United legend and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville fumed after the match that Rashford should have taken it against Wolves as well.

However Rashford looked to give Pogba his approval, following a short conversation they had before the kick, and confirmed he was happy for the midfielder to try his luck.

Pogba had gone down under a foul from Connor Coady in the box, prompting referee Jonathan Moss to point to the spot.

Rashford then asked Pogba if he wanted to take the kick, and getting a yes in return, Rashford patted the Frenchman on the back, before collecting the ball and giving it to his teammate.

Despite Pogba's powerful effort though, Patricio was equal to it, forcing a share of the spoils between the two sides.

Rashford said after the match: "Paul wanted to take it, it's that simple," says Rashford. "Anyone can miss a penalty, he has scored so many penalties and it is normal to miss one.

"It is simple, if you want to take it, you take it. I took one last week so for me it's no problem that he took it.

"It's unfortunate he didn't score but that's football. The confidence that you're going to score is always the same. We practice all week and we score the majority of them."

But Neville expressed his anger at the final whistle, citing a lack of leadership in United's ranks as the reason behind Pogba taking the penalty.

"I'm not sure if Pogba should have taken the one last week and Rashford stole that," Neville said.

"They had a long chat again today. I don't like it, why is there a long debate over who is taking it? There should never be a debate.

"Pogba has missed four of them over the last 12 months, so you would think he has had his chance.

"Rashford scored last week...take the penalty! There wasn't a leader out on the pitch. They couldn't make a decision between them. It was embarrassing.

"Something wasn't right.

"Initially I was fuming at Pogba as I thought 'typically you, you selfish, why are you trying to take a penalty off a player' but I'm holding off on it."
