Four dead, several rushed to hospital after eating food at dowry ceremony in Nyeri

It was a sad day for the residents of Rodama village in Kieni, Nyeri County after four people died and several rushed to the hospital after feasting at a dowry ceremony on Thursday 15 August.

Among those who died in the suspected food poisoning were the groom's mother and two in-laws.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Assistant County Commissioner for Kieni West Samuel Kariuki confirmed the incident.

Mugunda Ward Member of County Assembly Joseph Nderitu was among the people who were rushed to the Kariminu dispensary.

Reports show that most of those rushed to the hospital complained stomach problems and diarrhea.

According to witnesses, the food is said to have been prepared by cooks from Gikomba, Nairobi who had been hired by the groom.
