The project entails the construction of a three (3) floored building with capacity of 140 patients
Kenyans online were, however, skeptical of the project and asked the hospital to get funds from the government
Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Tuesday asked members of the public to contribute towards the construction of a Sh230million hostel to house cancer patients at the facility.
Through a series of tweets, the hospital highlighted the need for having the building saying patients have been suffering for a while now.
According to the hospital, survey data showed that about 30% of patients had missed or delayed treatment and indicated the most significant barriers to care included money to pay for treatment, money to pay for transportation to treatment, accommodation once in Nairobi and staying hungry throughout the day.
“This realization led to the dream of a Hope Hostel that would offer temporary accommodation to cancer patients undergoing treatment at KNH.
“The patients will be required to be housed for a short term, so that they are available for repeated investigations or treatments.
“This is expected to enhance good outcomes in cancer treatment as well as improve compliance with treatment, especially for radiotherapy and chemotherapy,” read the communication in part.
The project entails the construction of a three (3) floored building with capacity of 140 patients, a day respite area, a cancer resource centre, a restaurant and other support services.
Kenyans online were, however, skeptical of the project and asked the hospital to get funds from the government.
