University student found dead in her house

A 22-year-old female student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) was yesterday found dead in her house under mysterious circumstances.

Fouzia Adan Ibrahim, a third year student of Disaster and Management and Humanitarian Assistance was discovered by her friend who had gone to visit her at Makuti estate, Lurambi trading centre.

Maxwell Kasive is said to have discovered the deceased who has been ailing for an undisclosed decease and was under medication.

Kasive had gone to take her to hospital when he found the door locked from inside and was not opened even after knocking frequently.

Fouzia had requested Kasive the previous evening to come take her to hospital as the sickness was getting serious.

However, when he saw no-one was responding, Kasive decided to break the door only to discover the lifeless body lying on the bed where he reported to the student leaders who arrived at the scene immediately.

According to Vincent Lumala, the MMUST Student Chairman who arrived at the scene said the death was a blow to MMUST fraternity adding that a month ago another student died under similar circumstances.

“We are saddened by the unfortunate death, the second in under two months. I urge everyone not to speculate for the possible cause of the demise as the investigators are on course,” said Lumala.

David Kabena, Kakamega Central Sub-County Commander who confirmed the incident said the body did not have any physical injury pointing that Fouzia might have succumbed to the illness.

He said the body had been taken to the mortuary awaiting an autopsy to establish the actual cause of death.

“We moved swiftly after being informed of the incident. Investigations are underway and a post mortem report will ascertain what caused the death of the student,” said Mr Kabena.

Meanwhile, a 44-year old man has been found dead in his house in Muyala village, Mahiakalo Sub location under unclear circumstances.

Simon Makete, who has been sick for what many attribute to his excessive habit of alcohol consumption was found by his mother Truvena Mamadi in the morning at around 7am.

According to the mother, she woke up headed to the son’s house to check on his health only for her to find his lifeless body outside his house.

She informed the police who came to the scene and moved the body of the deceased to the county mortuary pending post-mortem.
