How Victor Wanyama could hand Pochettino selection nightmare next season

Harambee Stars and Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama is up for an epic battle to prove to the Tottenham Hotspurs management team that he is fit to stay at the new stadium for the next season.

The arrival of French star Tanguy Ndombele pushes the big Kenyan further down the pecking order in a now bloated midfield that includes five stars.

For now, no team has come out to pursue Wanyama's signature and with the transfer clock ticking, he might be up for another chance to impress the Argentine tactician.

The question in the minds of many Tottenham fans around the globe now is; What if 'Big Vic' rediscovers his lost form?

If he does, it will be a selection nightmare for Mauricio Pochettino, whom despite having many stars in midfield, he will be forced to leave some of them on the bench for squad-balancing purposes.

The former Southampton man was brought to London by Pochettino himself and he is arguably one of his favourite midfielders.

At the moment, Wanyama has to force his way back into a stacked midfield that already has the likes of Ndombele, Sissoko, Alli, Winks, Eriksen and Dier.

To some fans, it could be all over for Wanyama at Spurs but when he is up and running on the field, he is one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.

He was excluded from the Hotspur's International Champions Cup in Singapore and Shanghai tour owing to his Africa Cup of Nations exploits and is expected to link up with his teammates next week as confirmed by the club.

Wanyama played all three Kenya's Group C in the Africa Cup of Nations - where the Harambee stars fell at the first hurdle after one win in three.

If he can manage to shake off injuries that have plagued him for the past two seasons, he might just give Poch a serious selection quandary. ?
