As many Kenyans remember the many outstanding works of the veteran novelist Margret Ogolla in her 61st birthday, Google had her doodled.

The novelist, who wrote a renowned book The River and the Source, was born on 12 June 1958 and died on September 12, 2011.

Google used the book to celebrate her.

The novel, which has been on KCSE syllabus for many years, highlights the lives of four generations of Kenyan women from the 19th century through the quick changing country and society.

The River and the Source won the 1995 Commonwealth Writers' Prize for the best first book, Africa Region. Ms Ogolla was also the recipient of the Familias Award for Humanitarian Service of the World Congress of Families

She went to Alliance Girls High School for her secondary education before joining The University of Nairobi where she graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1984.
