VIDEO: Pastor Ng’ang’a goes to the wilderness to repent

By Vincent Kejitan | Apr 2nd 2019 | 2 min read

A video of Apostle James Ng’ang’a repenting in the wilderness has gone viral on social media.

In the undated video, the Neno Evangelism Centre founder is donning sackcloth and at some point pours dust over his head as a sign of submission.

According to his message, the video must have been recorded right before the General Election since he is calling for calm and repentance before the nation goes to the polls.

“I am just coming to you with a humble request to Kenyans and to the entire world that you may join me in asking for God’s intervention...I will take 6 days here.

“I repent my sins and the sins of my people…on behalf of the rich and the poor,” he says.

Ng’ang’a is no stranger to controversy and recently he was charged with threatening to kill Citizen TV journalist Linus Kaikai.

In the video that was widely shared on social media, Ng’ang’a warned Kaikai to steer clear of church matters and focus on journalism.

“Mbinguni hatuendi na kisomo…kusema mtatengeneza katiba ya kufungia wahubiri ambao hawajui kusoma ni makossa. This is Kenya not Rwanda.

“Wewe ni news anchor, unaongea hivyo kwa nini? Ndugu zako wote wamesoma? Mimi sikusoma na mimi ndiye mwanzilishi wa hii kanisa.

“Ufunge mdomo yako, I am telling you…deal na ule bishop mmekosana,” he said.

(We will not need degrees to enter the gates of heaven. Suggesting that only pastors with degrees will be allowed to preach is impractical. This is Kenya, not Rwanda. You are a news anchor…You should not be talking like that. Are all your relatives learned? I did not go to school but I am the founder of this church. Shut your mouth and deal with the bishop who offended you.)

In March, Ng’ang’a appeared before Resident Magistrate Justus Kituku at the Kiambu Law Courts and according to the charge sheet, the pastor was also accused of referring to himself as the Chief General Commander using words that ‘indicated or implied that it was or might be desirable to bring death or physical injury to the Citizen TV journalist.’

He was released on Sh200,000 cash bail and the pre-trial conference is set for April 3, 2019.
