Valentine's Day
SUMMARY

HELB is yet to release the Second Semester loan disbursements

This will affect Comrades' plan for Valentine's Day tomorrow

The Second Semester is set to start next week Monday

For those who understand Campus life, you know the role Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) plays in the life of comrades.

At Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), comrades are eagerly waiting for the Second Semester 2018/2019 HELB Loan disbursement.

With the Semester scheduled to start on Monday next week, comrades are in in a tricky situation. To make matters worse, today, Thursday 14th February is Valentine's Day.

The first semester came to an end last week and MMUST comrades were given a one week transition period. Few used this as an opportunity to run home from their campus wives who had started demand for a treat.

For those still hovering around the University, it is a double tragedy. HELB has not yet released the funds to comrades' bank accounts. This has been met with complaints and ululations from the comrades.

The MMUST comrades have already approached Masinde Muliro University Student Organization (MMUSO) Academic Secretary Mr. Patrick Odhiambo.

They want the Academic Secretary together with other MMUSO officials to approach the University administration which in turn should negotiate with HELB to allocate the funds.

HELB, through its Student Portal, had indicated that the funds will be allocated come March 1 when "the students resume studies."

Campus Relationships are at risk tomorrow as breadwinners are stranded and lost in thought. A simple mistake from the bride like breathing in the groom's apartment might lead to a breakup. Campus Relationship Analysts have already raised concerns over the increasing rates of breakups in MMUST during the last few days.

No one knows the fate of HELB after Valentine Day as Comrades' Power might prove to be very powerful. MMUST comrades might follow the footsteps of Kibabii comrades who demonstrated demanding for their "salary" from HELB.

Adding to the fury is the death of Clement, a fourth year student of Information Technology(IT) at MMUST who was found dead last week Friday near a Timber yard next to UNIMART in Lurambi Centre. Clement's death is still under police investigation. Comrades also planning on the Second Phase of their demonstration against killing of University Students.
