8 reasons why February will be an extended January

News

The month of January is almost over and many people are breathing a sigh of relief over ‘njaanuary’ blues. However, there are some folks who will still not be through with these hardships even after the month comes to a close.

For these characters, the problems will be following them through to February. Here are eight reasons why some people will find the month of February an extended January.

Late salaries

January has finally come to a close and for many; a sigh of relief and ray of hope can be seen in their faces. However, despite many companies paying latest by 31st, some folks will be paid as late as 15th February. This will make them beggars as they continue with the “hardships” of January. By this time, the shopkeepers and ‘mama mbogas’ will have been fed up with their begging as the idea that they haven’t been paid will be unbelievable

January debts

With the many debts from ‘mama mboga’, shopkeepers, shylocks, among others, some of these people will not have anything left in their pockets beyond 6th. Once people are paid their January salaries, they will proceed to shylocks to collect their items which they left as collateral while collecting loans. That TV you lied to your children that it is going to be repaired must now be brought back from the “fundi”. There will also be clearing debts with ‘mama mboga’, shylocks among others and hence; will be left with nothing.

Inflation

Many people believe that the Kenyan economy is worsening day in day out due to inflation. Companies have refused to increase minimum pay; many people will be having a difficult time managing the little income they earn. This coupled with the 8% tax increase will see many Kenyans feeling the pinch of high prices for goods than usual.

Drought

February is a month known for drought and as such, the price of most commodities will be soaring up. This owes to the scarcity of basic items such as food; vegetables. Don’t forget that this is when ‘sukuma wiki’ sticks will be counted according to the amount of money you have.

Bad creditors

There are some fellows who lend out money to others and by this time, many will not have refunded the said money. These folks keep on promising that things are bad on their side and that they will be clearing the debt by March. What they don’t know is that you are also going through a difficult situation and you are depending on them to move your life.

Recollections

Some fellows will still be reeling from the shock of January. This is the time they are reorganising themselves as they are take shape of their lives.

Poor planning

Despite having pocketed their January salaries, many people will still be at a loss on how to distribute their Sh15000 salary. They will not know whether it is the Sh9000 rent to be paid first, the Sh3500 monthly household goods budget to part with, the Sh2000 monthly chama to pay or that Sh5000 mshwari loan to pay which they used in December.

Betting

Believe you me, some people will be placing all their salaries on betting with the hope of multiplying the money. Unfortunately, the match which they gave a home win will end up in a draw and they will feel like committing suicide.
