Harambee Starlets trio in Sweden for trials

Barely a couple of weeks since three players left for a five-year scholarship with the USA-based Coffeyville Community College, another trio is headed for Sweden for trials with a second division side  Dalheim IF.

The trio who are currently in the USA are Thika Queens duo of Christine Kitaru and Faith Kwamboka and former St Jonhs Kaloleni sensation Levnix Rachuonyo.

Harambee Starlets co-captain Mary Kinuthia who plays as an attacking midfielder for Women Premier League side Gaspo Youth, Makolanders' midfielder Christine Nafula and Vihiga Queens forward Teresa Engesha left the country on Thursday for tryouts that will last for two months.

The trio will join another Kenyan international Corazone Aquino who is currently on trials with top league side Rosengard in Sweden.

Dalheim IF is under the guidance of former Kenyan International Robert Mambo.

In an interview with The Standard Sports, Mambo said this will be a great opportunity for the trio to make their name out there.

"It's a good opportunity for both parties. Having the three girls here is trying to give them a platform to better themselves if all goes well and for my club it's an opportunity to have national team players around us here believing they can come and add up there experience in this needed time of the league.

"So we just hope this can be a good opportunity and opener for our Kenyan girls in this region of the world. I also believe they are good and top players in our country thus why don't see the problem with them gelling into any team because the ball is the language in the field. Once you good with it then you can easily fit in all kind of players around you," Mambo said.

Nafula and Kinuthia were part of the national senior team that took part in the historic African Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon where the team was eliminated in the preliminary round after they lost all their three matches while
Engesha got her senior team call up this year for the AWCON 2018 qualifiers where Kenya was eliminated in the second and final round by former champions Equatorial Guinea.

"The Kenyan women football has really grown within a very short period of time and that's why I think it's a positive thing that we doing trying to expose them outside our borders. I take this as a positive step," added Mambo.
