  • Liverpool fans must be excited about playing Roma in the Champions League semifinals
  • They have only lost one of their previous five meetings against the Italians

Liverpool fans are the most excited among all the fans of the teams that will play in the Champions League semifinals. And they have a reason to because they landed their favorite draw. Liverpool avoided drawing reigning champions Real Madrid and German powerhouse Bayern Munchen who will square it out in the other semifinal.

Liverpool has a pretty good record against AS Roma. They have only lost one of their previous five meetings against the Italians and will, therefore, fancy their chances of going through.

But looking at this draw from Roma's perspective, I think they wouldn't have wished for a better draw than the one they got. In fact, there are rumors that they advertised tickets of their semifinal match against Liverpool before even the draw was made meaning this is what they were praying for.

Is Roma really the weakest team remaining in the competition? On paper, you would say yes, but the stats tell otherwise. The Roma team is very strong. You cannot call a team which overturned a three-goal deficit weak. More so those three goals were against Barcelona.

Roma has got a pretty good home record too. The Italians are yet to concede a goal at the Stadio Olimpico in the Champions League. And this is despite facing the likes Eden Hazard, Messi, Suarez and Griezman.

Looking at their squad, I would say they have more talented and quality players than Liverpool. Their defense is marshaled by Alison, a goalkeeper who is on Liverpool's radar in the summer. The fact that this man is keeping Ederson Moraes out of Brazil's first team is enough testament that he is good.

Federico Fazio, Manolas and Kolarov have also done a good job in defense and can handle anything thrown their way.

The midfield trio of captain Danielle De Rossi, Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman is also very good and talented. When you add Edin Dzeko, their main man in attack, to the mix then you have a team that can inflict a lot of pain to Liverpool.

Liverpool attacker Mo Salah is having a phenomenal season and I think he has surprised even himself. It seems everything he does results in a goal.He has just become the first player to win Premier League Player of the month three times in one season and may break more records. But if there is anyone best suited to stop him then it is Roma.

Salah spend two seasons at Roma, where he scored 34 goals in 83 matches before moving to Liverpool last summer. I am quite sure Roma know his tricks and will try to nullify him. This coupled with the fact that Liverpool always finds it hard to open up defensive teams are the reasons why their fans shouldn't be celebrating so much.

I am not ruling out Liverpool though, they are my favorites to advance to the finals but I won't be surprised if Roma advance.
