Heated argument erupts online after UoN cancels Senator Linturi’s Law degree

The University of Nairobi has canceled Meru Senator Mithika Linturi’s Law degree after he presented fake papers in order to get admitted.

In a sitting held on Thursday morning, the Senator was discontinued from the programme, which means that he might not graduate this month unless he appeals against the decision.

According to The Standard, a source in the university emphasized on the need to have genuine papers if one wishes to join.

“Admission is based on qualifications presented in a first degree. However, should the university find that the qualifications presented are not genuine, action is taken,” stated the source.

If anyone’s papers are found to be fake, even if they have graduated, they can still be recalled and the degree revoked.

Linturi registered for the programme in 2014 and was supposed to graduate this month.

Linturi is not new to controversy, as he was one of the people listed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as having ‘integrity issues’.

Kenyans on Twitter cannot believe that a senior person in government just had his law degree canceled, ridiculing the situation and also expressing concern of the genuineness of other officials’ papers.

Here is a sample of the responses and reactions online:

FACT: Since Mithika Linturi is of Jubilee Party, no state institution/official will pursue him over forgery like they did to one Hassan Joho.#LinturiDegree

Original Degree holders in Kenya are supposed to dig tunnels to succeed in life while those with fake ones sit & make Laws in parliament #LinturiDegree— Matere™ (@MatereDenis) November 30, 2017

When Miguna exposed Linturi.
"There's nothing i can learn from both senator Wamatangi and Linturi.
They can't teach me Law
They can't teach me Democracy
They can't teach me History
They can't even teach me Language.
They have 0 to add to the national discourse."#LinturiDegree

Well-done to the University of Nairobi .
It's now up-to @ODPP_KE to prosecute Senator Mithika Linturi's. Forgery is a criminal offence. #LinturiDegree— Patrick Safari (@patricksafariR) November 30, 2017

If the #LinturiDegree thing had happened to [an] Otiende Amolo or [a] Moses Kajwang, by now Duale, Murkomenn & Co, could've called a press conference, OM would be quoting chapters of Constitution spelling out their punishment & Boinett could've sent cops to raid their offices????????— Muganda Clay (@mqhlay) November 30, 2017

Same Mithika Linturi now deregistered by UoN, had been blacklisted by EACC in relation to the forged educational credentials.

How soon is his senate seat declared vacant? #LinturiDegree— A Karani Onsomu (@erwoti) November 30, 2017
