Antoine Griezmann has ruled out playing for Arsenal FC in football career
Arsene Wenger missed out on the chance to sign Griezmann in 2013
French star striker Antoine Griezmann has revealed why he would never sign for Arsenal even if the opportunity presented itself.
Reports in 2013 linked Griezmann to the English club while he was still playing for Spanish side Real Sociedad.
According to Mirror Football, Arsenal scout Giles Grimandi informed ‘Grizzy’ of Arsene Wenger’s interest in him, prompting the Frenchman to ignore generous offers from other top European clubs with the hope that he was going to play at the Emirates.
“I waited, I waited, and I kept waiting. When there was no news, Eric called Grimandi, who said that the manager was still interested in me, to keep waiting. Finally a few hours before the market closed, he let us know Arsenal would not make a move. I don't like to be told something and for it not to happen. So when Eric told me later that the London club were interested again I told him 'Forget it, after the blow they gave us,” read part of Griezmann’s autobiography ‘Behind The Smile’.
He went on to become one of the world’s best players, signing for Atletico Madrid and winning the Spanish Title. He has received several call ups to play for the national side and much recently, hinted about signing for Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd.
Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban that ends in January 2018 however blocked him from leaving the club, even though it looked obvious that he was joining Man Utd.
