SUMMARY
  • Controversial political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi says that none of Raila Odinga's dramas will make him the President of Kenya.
  • In a tweet on November 16, Ngunyi also posed a question to Kenyans, asking who between President Uhuru and Raila is Kenya's Mugabe.
  • This came in the height of Zimbabwe's bloodless coup after Mugabe's 37 years of hard ruling.

Kenyans on Twitter had a field day after controversial political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi claimed that National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga’s dramas will not make him the President.

Mutahi tweeted this in the wake of political tension as Raila is expected back into the country. Raila, who had gone to the United States and London to push for electoral reforms is expected back today on November 17.

Raila sought to have reforms in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision after President Uhuru Kenyatta was pronounced winner twice this year. Raila had withdrawn from the race days to the October 26 repeat poll.

President Uhuru defeated Raila twice in 2017

Mutahi’s comparison of Kenyan leaders to Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe comes as the latter is having troubles in his kingdom. Mugabe, who has led Zimbabwe for 37 years fired his deputy in favour of his wife Grace Mugabe. This led to a bloodless coup led by the ousted Deputy President.

"...The LION that ROARS never catches PREY" (Nigerian Proverb). Raila's DRAMAS will NOT make him PRESIDENT. Between Raila and Uhuru, who is MUGABE?

The tweet draws attention to the fact that Raila Odinga has been in politics for almost 30 years when he unsuccessfully vied for the presidency five times. President Uhuru, on the other hand, has beaten Raila twice in his 20 years of active politics.

Mutahi’s call for the comparison of the two and his speculation that Raila would never lead caused a stir on social media.

Unlike other times when Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) took one side, this debate had support from both sides.

You forget Uhuru keeps roaring but still gets beaten in his game of banning rallies. wait for tomorrow; by the way last time I checked you were to sue the Auditor General, how did it go or it was just an empty roar?— Cane Cutter (The Poor) (@CaneCutter2) November 16, 2017

This question is stupidly framed. The answer is the want who wants to stick to power by rigging like Mugabe, so Uhuru it is!— Leonard Rotich (@majorlen) November 17, 2017

It’s true, when you spoil for a fight you don’t expose your weapons to the enemy. It’s coward who does that.— Ayub Alolo (@ayubalolo) November 16, 2017

Others chose to attack Mutahi on bringing on the subject.

Nice talk.. Let's wait till the movie ends, then you will want where to hide yourself.— Ang'ou K'ang'ou (@eriking2001) November 16, 2017

Now that you do not have objective political analysis to share... You have reduced yourself to an online polling machine #resist— Leønard (@lenadlm) November 17, 2017
