Martha Karua says she will not support DP Ruto in 2022, here’s why

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, during a live TV interview on Wednesday 15 November, publicly declared that she will not vote for Deputy President William Ruto come 2022.

"My support was basically for President Uhuru and yes, I knew his deputy was William Ruto. In the last election, I supported a ticket which had two people but my main support was to President Kenyatta and once you support a candidate, it’s like a governor ticket, you support both. There are many people when we were running for governor who would say 'what about your deputy?' and those who would tell my deputy, 'what about the governor?" but if you really want to support that person, you support both," Said Martha Karua during the interview with NTV

When asked if she would support DP Ruto in 2022 she said’

“I am being very upfront, I will not support him,” she said citing that it is a choice and that it is in democracy.

The Narc Kenya leader’s petition case against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was on dismissed on 15 November. Judge Lucy Gitari said that the case was hopeless, defective and incurable.

Martha Karua, through lawyer Gitobu Imanyara filed a petition on 5 November at the Kerugoya High Court arguing Governor Waiguru’s win was not free and fair. Governor Waiguru was declared winner after garnering 159,606 votes against Karua's 120,341. She has however said that she will be filing an appeal.

“I believe the judgment was in error as it failed to appreciate the law and the authority, and that’s why we are filling an appeal tomorrow, the first step to an appeal is a notice of appeal, and that’s what we will be doing,” she said.
