NASA leader cautions supporters against economic boycott

Ex-media veteran and current Kitui Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua has cautioned supporters against the ongoing boycott, warning that it will cause economic harm to them.

The Senator who was elected under Wiper Party and a member of National Super Alliance (NASA), made the remarks during the homecoming party of Mwingi Central MCA Mary Kanini.

The event was graced by Kitui woman representative Irene Kasalu, former Kitui Deputy Governor Penina Malonza, Kitui Deputy Governor Wathe Nzau and Kitui county assembly majority leader Peter Kilonzo.

The senator’s call differs with those of NASA’s top leadership on using products and services from Safaricom, Bidco Oil Refineries, and Brookside Dairies on November 3.

Wambua said the boycott amounts to unfair punishment of traders in opposition strongholds and that bigwigs who were involved in the alleged election rigging and other malpractice should be dealt with, not the employees and other beneficiaries.

“There are so many NASA supporters who will end up jobless as well. “What will happen to them when they lose their jobs?...Consider the tough economic times we live in,” he said. He called the move to boycott an act of ‘shooting ourselves in the foot’.

Wambua worked at the Nation Media Group as Associate Editor before moving to The Standard Group where he worked as the Managing Editor of The Standard Group's weekend editions before joining politics in December 2016.

He urged NASA and Jubilee leaders to embrace dialogue since the country needs peace.

Majority leader Peter Kilonzo echoed Wambua’s remarks saying that both Raila and Uhuru should be talked into holding dialogue.
