Raila's staunch supporter predicts doom at the Supreme Court

NASA coalition principals were on Friday night led by a team of at least 20 lawyers as they filed their petition at the Supreme Court, challenging the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the August 8th 2017 elections.

The team prepared more than 25,000 pages of interventions for the supreme court, most of which the legal team comprising of senior counsel James Orengo says is evidence to prove the election was a sham.

NASA coalition rejected the presidential poll outcome terming the entire process as fraudulent, saying it affected nearly all elective positions across the country and connected it to the murder of IEBC ICT Manager Chris Msando.

Part of the evidence the team filed consists of electronic proof of alleged use of the slain ICT manager’s credentials to access the commission’s servers and manipulate figures.

Babu Owino is among the vocal supporters of NASA’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga and had on many occasions vowed to do everything possible to ensure Mr Odinga clinches the presidency but seemingly he is not seeing any grins of light at the end of the tunnel.

During an interview on KTN News on Friday, the Embakasi East MP-elect expressed lack of faith in the judicial systems and that the outcome of the petition will not by any way surprise him since precedence had already been set.

He argued that it is nearly obvious that the outcome of the petition will be a replica of what the Opposition leader had faced in 2013.

“We always say that the Judiciary is independent, but I don’t see its independence because we have the same forest with the same monkeys. There is precedence that has been set from 2013 and they are the same people. Only three have changed,” said Babu.

To Babu, it is difficult to believe in the judicial systems in cases of poll outcome petitions since as a law student, he had not seen any successful petition on presidential elections.

“This to me is a crazy one but the Judiciary must prove themselves. Once they mess up this petition, no Kenyan should seek justice from a court of law,” he added.

The coalition had earlier held that they would not move to court over the declaration of the poll results saying it was a path they had previously walked through, but later pegged their decision to move to the Supreme Court on the mistreatment of AFRICOG and the Kenya Human Rights Commission.

However, in his address to the media after the petition had been filed, Mr Odinga said the lawyers had been working on the petition for the last one week to ensure that they had a water tight case against Uhuru’s re-election.
