A day after the National Super Alliance coalition (NASA) led by Raila Odinga launched their presidential campaigns in Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega county where he urged the residents to abstain from sex on the eve of elections, the plea has been welcomed positively and negatively by area residents.

Majority, mostly women have said that they will follow the directive associating the act with bad luck while minority male have stated they will go ahead and eat the fruit as they argue it helps that jump starts their day.

"Whenever I go to the market to bring my cereals and vegetables for my grocery I never engage in the act as I get poor quality stock, I guess the act is cursed" said mama Lavine.

The strong, energetic and healthy men from the region especially boda boda riders have vowed to engage in the practice keeping in mind that August is mostly a rainy season accompanied by cold nights.

"Whether I will engage or not engage in the practice will depend on the weather of the day, if it will be too cold I will have to," said a boda boda rider.

NASA's presidential candidate Raila Odinga used the same technique during voter registration exercise early this year where he instructed women from former Nyanza province to abstain from sex with partners who haven’t registered as voters.
