Why Waiguru’s new tactics place her above Ndathi in Kirinyaga governorship race

On April 21, 2017, Kirinyaga residents will go to the ballot to nominate Jubilee candidates who will battle it out with others in the August 8 elections. The past weeks have seen increased activities in the county, as each aspirant seeks to gain more ground ahead of the nominations.

One key campaign that has caught the interest of the residents is that of former Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru. While the other aspirants have focused on Constituency visits, the former Cabinet Secretary has gone a step further with her Meet The People tour, targeting voters in the wards.

The segmentation of the county into smaller units give Waiguru an advantage of creating a personal interaction platform with the people, with her tours involving door-to-door meetings and public addresses. Waiguru has also focused her energy on youth and women groups, Saccos, business communities, religious organisations and other groups as she spells out her agenda for the people.

So far, Waiguru has visited all the wards in the four constituencies in Kirinyaga County (Mwea, Ndia, Kirinyaga Central and Gichugu, holding door-to-door meetings and addressing rallies.

The former CS has promising to improve health care, agriculture, infrastructure, education, and security while also supporting women and youth initiatives and creating job opportunities for the locals.

In her rallies, the former CS said that Ndathi had failed to deliver in the four years he has been in office, saying she is best suited to ensure a turnaround in how county affairs are handled and place Kirinyaga highest in terms of development in the country.

The winner of the Jubilee governorship race will face off with Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua among others for the Kirinyaga governorship seat on August 8, 2017 elections.
