EPL: Arsenal drop points, City and Liverpool share the spoils

A series of mixed reactions have rocked the Gunners of late; the loss over Bayern Munich, a win over Lincoln City, and now manager Arsene Wenger is under fire due to the streak of bad results.

West Bromwich Albion welcomed Arsenal at the Hawthorns on Saturday for the match-week 29 early kickoff.

Craig Dawson opened the account in the 12th minute, thanks to Nacer Chadli’s cross into the box from a corner.

Arsenal cancels the lead almost immediately as three minutes later, Granit Xhaka finds Alexis Sanchez who is unmarked in the box, and the Chilean scores his 18th Premier League goal of the season.

Few moments after coming in, Hal Robson-Kanu fires in, capitalizing on keeper David Ospina’s mistake hence putting the hosts in front ten minutes after the restart.

In the 75th minute, Dawson grabbed a brace with his powerful header from close range.

Wenger’s boys could do little to overturn the result and the Baggies carried the day. Arsenal is now sixth with 50 points though with a game at hand.

In another fixture, Everton netted four past Hull City at Goodison Park, condemning the Tigers to the relegation zone. Romelu Lukaku’s double did not only make him the first Premier league player to reach 20 goals this season, but the 23-year old Belgian is also the top scorer with 21 goals.

Gary Cahill’s late strike at bet365 Stadium, saw Chelsea register a 2-1 win over Stoke City. The Blues are now 10-point clear at the top of the table with 69 points.

Leicester City new manager Craig Shakespeare has registered four wins in four matches in all competitions. A 2-0 win over Sevilla in the Champions League gave the Foxes enough confidence as they travelled to Olympic stadium to face West Ham United.

West Ham’s Manuel Lanzinni and Andre Ayew got on the score sheet, but goals from Riyad Mahrez, Robert Huth, and Jamie Vardy in the first half ensured a 3-2 away win for Leicester.

On Sunday, struggling Middleborough welcomed Manchester united at Riverside Stadium. Boro, who a few days ago sacked their manager Aitor Karanka, saw his assistant Steve Agnew taking over. Unfortunately, Agnew’s first match in-charge was disastrous after losing 1-3 to United, thanks to goals from Marouane Fellaini, Jesse Lingard, and Antonio Valencia.

The Red devils are fifth on the log with 52 points; a top-four finish for Jose Mourinho’s men is now within their grip.

The win saw Manchester United break the record by becoming the first side to record 600 Premier League wins.

Tottenham Hotspur, who were without their top striker, Harry Kane ensured a slim 2-1 win over Southampton. James Ward-Prowse’s strike for the Saints in the second half did little as Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli had already put the host in front before the break.

Spurs have now won ten Premier League matches in a row at White Hart Lane.

The much-awaited clash on Sunday, saw Manchester City take on Liverpool at Etihad Stadium. A 1-1 score line is what many would not have predicted between these two sides. Fairly, both teams wasted their chances in front of the goal.

James Milner gave visitors the lead after converting from the spot, seven minutes into the second half. Milner, who scored his seventh from the spot-kick this season, now holds the record for the most Premier League games scored in without losing at 47.

Sergio Kun Aguero equalized in the 69th minute, netting his 13th of the season thanks to Kevin De Bruyne’s excellent cross for the assist.

The draw has left the Citizens down to third place with 57 points, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea. Jürgen Klopp is fourth with 56 points.
