A doomed voter registration campaign
By PAUL BARASA | January 23rd 2017
According to Raila, Africa is now in love with veteran politicians, that is why the Ghanaians elected Nana Akufo-Addo as their president at the age of 72 years.
He also said that as old men they are wiser than the so-called digital leaders. In relation to that, he further told Kenyans that they should know that as a wise old man he will not error while making crucial decisions that will make Kenya to achieve its vision and mission.
However, Raila said that it is vital to have the opposition moles in the government so that they can leak all the secrets in the government to the opposition.
This makes me wonder was Onyango Oloo an opposition mole and that is why he was kicked from Jubilee party.
On matters of rigging elections, the opposition leader insinuated that when rigging elections the government ensures that the voters in the opposition stronghold are not registered by not deploying enough voter registration kits in the opposition's strongholds.
He said that this trick will be sorted out by ensuring that there are enough kits for registration of voters. Also, the opposition will take personal initiatives, what they are already taking to sensitize citizens to register as voters.
He also said that the government sometimes deploys faulty BVR kits in the opposition’s strongholds so that they fail and make the voters' register turnout number to be low.
To counter this, he said that they are checking with each and every BVR kit to ensure that it is working as it is supposed to.
Another secret the veteran politician said is usually used to rig elections is by voters in the opposition strongholds being given a minimal duration to cast their votes. This makes some eligible voters ending up not voting hence reducing the number of votes the opposition is likely to get.
Also, he said revealed that votes are sometimes stolen at the counting stage. According to him, this is why Jubilee was persisting in case the electronic system fails they will resort to using a manual system of voting. He said that is a scheme to rig elections.
In ensuring that this doesn’t happen Raila said that they have put a good number people on standby in each and every polling station to ensure they monitor the votes when they are being counted to avoid giving the wrong figures at the tallying center.
Finally, Raila hinted that elections are stolen during the announcing of the winner. According to him the electoral body boss deliberately announces the loser as the winner due to intimidation from the government side. These are just but a few ways that Raila mentioned to us.
