PRESIDENT DISBANDS CAMPAIGNS TEAMS

President Uhuru Kenyatta has on Friday disbanded the much-hyped presidential campaigns teams that had some elected leaders in their membership with an aim of removing differences among aspirants ahead of Jubilee Party nominations.

The committees that in some regions had all elected leaders as members of the committee was seen to have sent wrong signals to others wishing to seek various nomination positions in order to run for elective posts in the next general election slated for August 8th, 2017.

While talking at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani on Friday during the launch of Jubilee Party membership registration exercise which will be done the digital way, Mr. Kenyatta ordered the party's head of campaign Mr. Raphael Tuju to immediately disband the initial team which had elected leaders and pointed that new all-inclusive team will be picked in the next one week.

"We do not have any favorites and in Jubilee, Mr. Sakaja is the same as Sonko and they are all members of Jubilee. All aspirants and leaders affiliated to Jubilee are members of the campaigns team." the president said.

The stand was shared was shared by his deputy William Ruto who said the party will come with an all-inclusive team that will enable the party reap from aspirants who share the same ideology for the party to defend successfully the presidency in the impending general election.

"We want free and fair nominations and the president directed Mr. Tuju that all aspirants must now join the presidential campaign team." Mr. Ruto said.

He pointed out that this would stop the feeling by some people that he and the president had some preferred candidates to be nominated for various positions ahead of the next general election.

Recently, the DP had assured aspirants not to defect to other parties if they lost party nominations insisting that if Jubilee won the next poll they will all be appointed to various government positions.
