Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho and Kilifi Governor Amison Kingi have a right to security

I strongly disagree with Government spokesman Manoah Esipisu concerning the withdrawal of security teams for governors Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi.

What the Government spokesperson called reorganisation is nothing short of political shenanigans.

Every citizen is entitled to security and the two governors must enjoy this fundamental right. It is a right that must be given freely and should not be based on political factors.

If it's true that the denial of security for the two governors was informed by their strong criticism of the Jubilee administration, then that is very worrying.

Any Government in a democratic society should be ready to be criticised without turning on political dissenters.

Now that we are in an election year, the timing is very suspect and this calls for concern especially because in the past, threats and even bodily harm have been directed at political leaders perceived to be critical of the Government.

The State should act in good faith and reinstate security for both leaders immediately.
