Chama Cha Mashinani party leader Isaac Ruto on Wednesday stated that most accusations by MCAs against governors are based on propaganda.
Speaking during an interview on JKL, the former Bomet Governor said during his time he championed for devolution, adding that more often than not accusations levelled against governors are rarely factual.
“Many accusations by MCAs against governors do not hold water. Which governor has been convicted in a court of law?
“There is too much antipathy towards the devolution idea,” he said.
On Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s impeachment, Ruto opined that the MCAs are just flexing their muscles.
“I would like to know who has investigated issues levelled against Anne Waiguru…In my view, I feel Kirinyaga MCAs are flexing their political muscle against Waiguru,” he remarked.
Last week, the Kirinyaga County Assembly voted to impeach Waiguru with 23 ward representatives supporting the motion anchored on violation of the Constitution, abuse of office and gross misconduct.
The move led to divided opinion, some reading malice in their action.
Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Wednesday stated that Waiguru is being targeted by men.
Through a tweet, Ahmednasir suggested that society often treats women badly and the embattled governor is a victim of the same.
“We treat WOMEN differently and BADLY...and Anne Waiguru is obviously and always a victim of men's political malice...many times...always...
“The process in the Senate is a secondary factor...and we all know that...,” he wrote.
Earlier, Public Service and Gender CS Margaret Kobia threw her weight behind the governor saying the move was ill-informed.
“This is an indicator that some of us do not value strong women leadership. We are disappointed that the Governor is being impeached during the fight against COVID-19 which is negatively impacting on social economic development of the country,” read her statement in part.
