Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina on Tuesday dared his counterpart from Elgeyo Marakwet Kipchumba Murkomen to resign if he does not agree with the happenings in the Senate.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen, Ole Kina said he has faith that in the committee and justice will be served.

“If you strongly feel what we are doing is a waste of time and we are encouraging impunity, I want to ask you to be the first Senator to resign.

“The committee will look at the evidence presented by the County Assembly of Kirinyaga. As senators, we will do all to ensure justice for Kirinyaga. Let us not say that the die has been cast,” said the Narok Senator.

On his part, Murkomen said he does not have a problem with the committee but was against one whose outcome was already pre-determined.

“Gov Waiguru deserves justice just like Kirinyaga residents…What we needed is a committee that is not pre-determined… I feel the committee already has a decision- Anne Waiguru has been cleaned and sanitized.

“I have told the people of Kirinyaga that their case is closed. They should look for another place where their governor will be accountable…The committee formed was to cleanse the governor…The institution on trial is the Senate…,” said Murkomen.

This is after the Senate voted to back the formation of an 11-member committee to probe grounds on which Waiguru was impeached.

Out of the 60 senators who took part in the vote, 45 voted in support of the committee, 14 wanted the whole House to handle the matter with one senator abstaining

According to the directive by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, the committee will start investigating the governor immediately and present a report in the next 10 days.

Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, who voted against the select committee, described it as the 'Capitol Hill Sanitisation Committee' in reference to opposition chief Raila Odinga’s office where pro-Handshake politicians have frequented.
