Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday advised Chief Justice David Maraga not to respond to those who are hell-bent on tainting his image because it will only serve to propel their agenda.

The senator was responding to a video shared by the CJ highlighting how the Judiciary had been undermined.

“My Lord the Chief Justice these shadowy characters have no morals neither do they care. They want to justify their assault on Judicial independence.

“I beg you please don’t publicize their evil videos. Don’t tweet them. You are aiding their cause,” tweeted Murkomen.

In the video, Maraga had been portrayed as unscrupulous with several accusations levelled against him.

He termed the whole saga as shameful saying it was a new low for those who want to fight the judiciary.

“This is how low they have sunk in their determination to undermine the Judiciary and judicial independence,” he tweeted.

This comes just days after the Judiciary asked the Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate those behind a number of banners in the city that had defamatory messages aimed at Chief Justice.

The banners, which read “COMING SOON…Who Maraga is protecting” were seen at various places in Nairobi and the Judiciary has strongly condemned the act.

“The content of the banners intimated that this was the beginning of a ‘vicious fight’ targeting CJ David Maraga in particular and the Judiciary in general.

“While the Judiciary does not know the people behind these attacks, it is clear that the banners are a continuation of well-choreographed attacks on the Judiciary throughout this week, particularly on social media,” read the statement in part.
