Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa on Tuesday said he is firmly in Jubilee Party but should be allowed to have a divergent opinion on some issues.

Speaking during a TV interview, the lawmaker maintained that he once vowed to support President Uhuru Kenyatta but that does not necessarily mean he has to agree with him on everything.

“I will never betray President Uhuru Kenyatta in terms of his agenda. As to whether I will agree with him on everything, that is debatable.

“I expect he will be democratic enough to allow me have a divergent opinion,” he remarked.

Asked whether the situation is salvageable despite some disagreeing with some of the recent developments in the party, Ichungwa said it is, provided the laid down procedures are adhered to.

“The President’s enemies are those who do not tell him the truth…I believe Jubilee party is salvageable…Political parties are not private property.

“If we want to change Parliamentary leadership we must follow laid down procedures,” he stated.

Earlier, Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege stated that it is no secret that there are wrangles in Jubilee Party.

Chege said that problems started when a section of the legislators started campaigning instead of working.

“We cannot pretend things are good in Jubilee. The question is when the rain started beating us…The President asked us to work, not campaign…There has been betrayal and disloyalty.

“When the handshake came very many people within Jubilee were not very comfortable…They were a bit suspicious,” she said.

Further, she reminded Ichungwa that he is a beneficiary of Uhuru Kenyatta’s candidacy and should criticize him with respect.
