Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has dismissed talk that Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen lost his position as majority leader due to his association with Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking during an interview on JKL, Wambugu said President Uhuru Kenyatta had been patient with Murkomen for a long time and it was time to ‘clean the house.’
The lawmaker added that Murkomen has often differed with President Kenyatta, who is the party leader, and although he is well within his rights, it is probably something the Head of State was not willing to condone.
“Kipchumba, unless he says he was working under the directives of the Deputy President, was relieved of his duties as Majority Leader based on his own actions.
“It is important to exclude the DP (Ruto) from this discussion,” he said.
On whether the DP’s camp has numbers in the National Assembly, Wambugu said the perception that those numbers can be used against the President is something he cannot agree with.
“I know we have numbers, we are the largest political party in parliament, we are the largest political party in the country.
“The perception that these numbers can be used against the President is what I completely disagree with,” he said.
Further, the MP stated that the fact that a few members of Jubilee are not happy with the ouster of Murkomen does not mean the entire country is against it.
He argued that majority of Kenyans are actually happy that the President is now willing to work with those who were in the opposition to achieve his Big Four agenda.
“This country cannot be held to ransom by the ambitions of any single one of us for 2022,” concluded Wambugu.
