Just days after making light work of high school Mathematics, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino will this Friday take candidates through Chemistry as they prepare for their examinations.

He was applauded for his efforts last week as he solved several equations without breaking a sweat.

It was, however, expected of him since he has a degree in Actuarial Science.

Babu said he will be live on Facebook this Friday from 2pm and asked candidates to tune in with a pen and paper.

School closure was extended by a month to June 4, 2020, and parents wonder how students will make up for lost time.

While responding to issues raised by Members of Parliament on Thursday, Education CS George Magoha reiterated that all students will be given time to make up for lost learning sessions before exams are administered.

He also stated that as of now national examinations have not been postponed.

Asked how the ministry intends to reach out to those who have no internet access, PS Belio Kipsang noted that they had numerous partnerships with several media outlets to reach out to students in those areas.

But reports also indicate the Ministry of Education is worried about a possible rise in cases of teenage pregnancies, early marriages, child labour and school dropouts sparked by the prolonged closure of schools.

There is also a high risk of job losses among non-teaching and contract staff.

The ministry fears there will be probable discrimination and stigmatisation of learners, who may be infected by the coronavirus or affected by the pandemic.

A proposed ministry emergency response plan says confinement of children at home due to school closures poses long-term consequences, especially for the most vulnerable and marginalised children who already experience barriers accessing education.
