Ambassador Kyle McCarter puts Kericho Governor on the spot over COVID-19 testing equipment

US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter, put on the spot Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony over the COVID-19 testing equipment he unveiled on Friday, April 24.

Through his Twitter handle, Governor Chepkwony announced the unveiling of mass testing for COVID-19 in collaboration with Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).

“I am proud to unveil mass COVID-19 testing at the KEMRI/Walter Reed Laboratory in Kericho today. We are proud of our collaboration with KEMRI which means that we can now conduct up to 2000 COVID19 tests per day,” said the governor.

As Kenyans congratulated the Kericho governor for a work well done on the comments section, Ambassador Kyle responded reminding him that the equipment was donated by the US government.

The Ambassador even posted photos of the unveiling of COVID-19 equipment that took place in January, 30, 2020.

“You mean this equipment bought by the USA unveiled Jan30, 2020,” tweeted the Ambassador.

The Ambassador’s tweet put Governor Chepkwony on the spot, where Kenyans on Twitter called him out and asked him to respond and clarify his statement.

The following day, the legislator clarified his statement and acknowledged the role played by the US government in launching the equipment.

“Yes, indeed Amb McCarter. I acknowledge and appreciate the huge role that the United States has played in this process as I mentioned in my statement attached. What we launched yesterday was the deployment of this equipment towards mass testing for COVID-19, “responded the governor.

A section of Kenyans on twitter asked the rest of the politicians to give the right information while informing the public.
