The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Tuesday sent a special message to all medics in the country, asking God to continue blessing the work of their hands.

Through a chopper that flew over several estates in the city, KDF lauded the work of health workers during this difficult period as they take care of Coronavirus patients.

This gesture was warmly received by KNH CEO Dr Evanson Kamuri who said that all medics were uplifted by the message.

“We appreciate KDF for the thoughtful gesture of an aircraft Fly-by over Kenyatta National Hospital with a ‘GOD BLESS MEDICS ‘banner.

“Our healthcare workers are honored and encouraged by the recognition of their role fighting COVID-19. ASANTE SANA,” wrote the KNH boss.

KDF added: “From One Soldier To Another! We salute Kenya's Healthcare Workers!”

Online, many lauded the move by KDF to honour medics but said the government should do more in terms of improving their working conditions.

In recent weeks doctors have raised concern that they are at risk of contracting the virus due to lack of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).

On Monday, the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for his appreciation of health workers and welcomed his directive to the Ministries of Health and Public Service to develop a welfare package to cushion medics.

The union also thanked local industries for their efforts in production of PPEs but said some do not meet the required standards.

“The suit failed the leakage test and the manufacturers promised to improve quality.

“We caution that even as we look into our local industry…standards of occupational safety and health should be strictly adhered to,” read the statement in part.

KMPDU also requested the government to streamline its communication channels as far as testing of medics is concerned and to avail the results within 48hours.
