Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, on Wednesday morning, March 4, advertised 1,498 job vacancies in the Nairobi County government.

Though his social media handles, the Nairobi Governor put up the advertisement stating that County Constables (800 posts), Firefighters (200 posts), and ECDE- Caregivers (498 posts) are required.

Potential candidates are advised to send their applications online before March 19, adding that no hard copy applications will be accepted.

According to the NCC Public Service Board Recruitment Portal, the salary for County Constables ranges between Sh14,610 to Sh16,250.

In addition, they will receive Sh4,125 house allowance and Sh3,000 commuter allowance. Candidates also have to be between the ages of 18 and 35.

The governor also highly encouraged women and persons with disabilities to apply. However, women were advised not to be pregnant during the period of recruitment.

The advertisement comes at a time when the unemployment rate in Kenya has gone higher, with most youth affected.

According to the World Bank Report in 2019, Kenya has to create at least 900,000 jobs yearly to absorb the jobless youth into the job market between now and the year 2025.

The report also indicated that the country is producing low-quality jobs, despite growth in job creation.

"In Kenya, only six percent of total employment is in the formal non-agricultural sector. Almost half of total employment, 49 percent, is informal non-agricultural employment, with the remaining 45 percent employed in agriculture," read part of the report.

According to Trading Economics global macro models and analysts, Kenya's unemployment rate is expected to go up to 9.00% by the end of this year.
