Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo revealed that the best career advice she ever got was from former Justice Minister Martha Karua.

The legislator narrated how Martha Karua, at one point, while representing another woman in court, came to her rescue when she was faced with a dilemma.

“There was one time when I was dealing with a case in court. I was representing a woman whose marriage didn’t go well and she sneaked back with her child to Kenya. Her husband didn’t offer any support for their child.”

“This lack of support went on for a long time but he came back when he found out the woman was pregnant. Now he wanted custody of his child. One he had never supported and his reason was this woman was immoral,” the legislator narrated.

Millie says she was unsettled and pacing up and down outside the court as she tried to find a way to deal with the situation since they could not hide the pregnancy.

She says it was at this point when Martha Karua found her and asked her what was wrong. Millie explained everything to her, and this is the advice she was given.

“Go in there and tell them your client did not commit to be the virgin Mary. She is a woman and she had needs,” Karua advised Millie.

The Suna North MP says that advice helped them win the case adding that she learnt not to let people joke with her in life.

She later gave a career advice to Kenyans saying, “you are the best person for the job; never look behind you for approval, and put your best foot forward.”
